Planar Graphs as Minimal Resolutions of Trivariate Monomial Ideals
نویسنده
چکیده
We introduce the notion of rigid embedding in a grid surface, a new kind of plane drawing for simple triconnected planar graphs. Rigid embeddings provide methods to (1) find well-structured (cellular, here) minimal free resolutions for arbitrary monomial ideals in three variables; (2) strengthen the Brightwell–Trotter bound on the order dimension of triconnected planar maps by giving a geometric reformulation; and (3) generalize Schnyder’s angle coloring of planar triangulations to arbitrary triconnected planar maps via geometry. The notion of rigid embedding is stable under duality for planar maps, and has certain uniqueness properties. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 05C10, 13D02, 06A07, 13F55, 68R10, 52Cxx

متن کاملMonomial Ideals with Linear Quotients Whose Taylor Resolutions Are Minimal
We study when Taylor resolutions of monomial ideals are minimal, particularly for ideals with linear quotients.
متن کاملFinite atomic lattices and resolutions of monomial ideals
In this paper we primarily study monomial ideals and their minimal free resolutions by studying their associated lcm-lattices. In particular, we formally define the notion of coordinatizing a finite atomic lattice P to produce a monomial ideal whose lcm-lattice is P , and we give a characterization of all such coordinatizations. We prove that all relations in the lattice L(n) of all finite atom...
متن کاملMinimal free resolutions that are not supported by a CW-complex
In [1] it is shown that every monomial ideal admits a simplicial resolution (Taylor’s resolution) and that some minimal free resolutions are supported in simplicial complexes (Scarf ideals, monomial regular sequences). This idea is generalized in [2] where cellular resolutions are introduced. The authors show that every monomial ideal admits a resolution supported in a regular cell complex (the...
متن کاملSplittable Ideals and the Resolutions of Monomial Ideals
We provide a new combinatorial approach to study the minimal free resolutions of edge ideals, that is, quadratic square-free monomial ideals. With this method we can recover most of the known results on resolutions of edge ideals with fuller generality, and at the same time, obtain new results. Past investigations on the resolutions of edge ideals usually reduced the problem to computing the di...
